Mirror, pixels & stars

May is dedicated to Video/ Film and Performance

From the beginning of its existence, the moving image has fascinated the world. The unique interplay of light and shadow that conveys a sense of dynamic movement given with the most amazing technology ever seen by mankind. Without doubt, these days marked a turning point in the evolution from the old, to the new, contemporary world, with an unknown impact unfolding in the dawn of technology and art. The evolution of visual storytelling, of the moving image, developed from the first celluloid film screened by the Lumière brothers in 1895, to the pixel revolutionized. From silent films to today’s advanced digital effects, technology combined with artistic innovation have pushed the boundaries of the motion picture, transforming a mere curiosity, to one of the most dominant and defining chapters in contemporary culture.
«Mirror, pixel & stars» brings media technology, artists and audiovisual technicians invited by splitart projects wien in May, to produce a spectacular audio-visual ecosystem. The exhibition reaches beyond a limited and conventional display of art and the moving image or film, immersing in the essence of art that blurs the boundaries between mass culture, higher art and kitsch. It touches upon the true nature of contemporary culture.
«Mirror, pixel & stars» will not describe or compare art and cinema, nor attempt a stylistic comparison of painting and film, rather attempt to reveal the connections between the two mediums. Let the conventional distinctions that bound the experimental and the narrative medium or video art, give way to the essence of the idea itself, along with its functionality and outcome. May is a panorama dedicated to the moving image, featuring an exciting lineup of diverse international artists showcasing their work each afternoon and evening, offering the audience a unique opportunity to connect and engage in conversation.
